Teen solves centuries-old math problem
LONDON, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Elton John's husband, David Furnish, has acknowledged his recent Facebook remarks about U.S. pop star Madonna created a "tempest in a teapot."
Madonna beat out John for the Golden Globe Award for Best Song from a Motion Picture Sunday, prompting Furnish to post an online message saying: "Madonna. Best song???? [Expletive] off!!!"
Furnish also panned her acceptance speech as "embarrassing in its narcissism."
His remarks were picked up by media outlets around the world, and he was widely criticized for being a bad sport.
E! News said he returned to Facebook Thursday to clarify his point of view.
"Wow! What a tempest in a teapot," Furnish wrote. "My comments regarding The Golden Globes have been blown way out of proportion. My passion for our film 'Gnomeo & Juliet' and belief in Elton's song really got my emotional juices going. But I must say for the record that I do believe Madonna is a great artist, and that Elton and I wish her all the best for next week's premiere of the film 'W.E.'"
Madonna's song "Masterpiece" from "W.E." won the Globe this week. John was nominated for "Hello Hello" from "Gnomeo & Juliet."
