SIERRA BLANCA, Texas, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Rapper Snoop Dogg was arrested in Texas for alleged marijuana possession during the weekend, law-enforcement sources told TMZ.

The hip-hop icon was arrested when his tour bus was stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, the same town where country crooner Willie Nelson was arrested for the same infraction in 2010.

A drug-sniffing dog alerted border-patrol authorities, who then searched Snoop Dogg's bus and allegedly found a stash of marijuana, TMZ reported.

The rapper reportedly admitted the cannabis was his and said he had a prescription for it in California, but Texas authorities said it is not valid out-of-state.

The entertainment news Web site said Snoop Dogg was issued a citation for misdemeanor drug possession and released from police custody.
