LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. country music star Taylor Swift has been offered the role of Eponine in Hollywood's upcoming movie musical version of "Les Miserables," E! News said.

Victor Hugo's 19th-century French epic has spawned dozens of film and television adaptations.

The latest incarnation is based on the blockbuster stage show, which ran on Broadway from 1987 to 2003 and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Amanda Seyfried also is in final negotiations to play Cosette in the latest film, which is being helmed by "The King's Speech" director Tom Hooper, E! News said.

The "Les Miserables" cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.
