LONDON, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Simon Cowell has announced plans to return as a judge on the reality competition show "Britain's Got Talent" in the spring after a season-long absence.

Cowell left "Talent" to devote his time to the new American version of "The X Factor," for which he serves as judge and producer. That show wrapped up its first season in December.

The Hollywood Reporter said Cowell intends to continue as a judge for "The X Factor," which doesn't start airing again until next fall.

Also judging "Talent" with Cowell will be Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden.

"I miss Britain and I miss the British public and I miss judging them. I want to find the next generation of talent in 2012," The Hollywood Reporter quoted Cowell as saying Monday. "By coming back in 2012, it's the year of the Olympics, it's a big year for Britain, we are going to be in the world's spotlight and I want this show to be back in the world spotlight."
