Singer-actress Kaye Stevens dead at 79

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Singer and actress Kaye Stevens has died in a Florida hospital after battling breast cancer and blood clots, a close friend said. She was 79.

Stevens' friend Gerry Schweitzer told the South Florida Sun Sentinel she died Wednesday at the Villages Hospital.

A popular actress in commercials in the 1950s, Stevens shared the stage with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. during the Rat Pack era, and performed a solo cabaret act at high-profile venues such as Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas and the Plaza Hotel's Persian Room in New York.

She was a popular guest on "The Tonight Show," a frequent contestant on various game shows like "Hollywood Squares," "$25,000 Pyramid," "The Price is Right" and "Password," and a member of Bob Hope's company of entertainers, which entertained the American troops during the Viet Nam War, the Sun Sentinel said.

Her film credits include "The Interns," "Jaws 3" and "The Man from the Diners Club," and she appeared in guest roles on "ChiPs," "Police Woman" and "B.L. Stryker."

She played Jeri Clayton on the daytime soap "Days of Our Lives" from 1974-79.
