VIENNA, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- British pop singer George Michael was hospitalized in Vienna, Austria, after struggling with a chest infection that turned into pneumonia, a spokeswoman said.

Michael has canceled three concerts in France since he was diagnosed with pneumonia and ordered to stay in the hospital, The Sun reported.

"George has had to cancel some shows because he has pneumonia. It started with a chest infection and developed into pneumonia, therefore he had to cancel some shows. When you have pneumonia it takes a while to get better," a spokeswoman for the star said Wednesday. She said she did not know when Michael would be released from the hospital.

Last month, Michael pulled out of three shows at London's Royal Albert Hall because of a viral infection and a high temperature.
