MOUNT VERNON, N.Y., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Jay-Z, Queen Latifah, Diddy, John Legend and Rosie Perez attended Friday's private funeral for rapper Heavy D at the Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, N.Y.

The Jamaican-born hip-hop star, whose real name was Dwight Myers, died Nov. 8 at a Los Angeles hospital after collapsing outside his home. He was 44.

His family said he died of complications from pneumonia, The (White Plains) Journal News reported. Officials have said they are waiting for the results of toxicology tests before determining the cause.

The New York Daily News said thousands of Heavy D's fans, friends and family members turned out for a public wake Thursday afternoon.

Diddy, Shawn and Marlon Wayans, Russell Simmons and Flavor Flav were among those who attended a private wake Thursday evening, the Daily News said

"My brother had amazing integrity and his commitment to the community was profound," said Floyd Myers, Heavy D's brother and business partner. "Out of all of Heav's accomplishments, his most important triumph was becoming a father. His love for his daughter, Xea, was unparalleled."
