LAS VEGAS, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- The Flamingo casino unveiled plans for gala grand opening for Jimmy Buffet's new Margaritaville casino in Las Vegas next month.

Margaritaville will begin a soft opening on the Flamingo's Strip property Oct.1 with the official grand opening on the 14th, officials said.

"We're at the very final stages, down to the final coat of paint," Flamingo President Rick Mazer told the Las Vegas Sun. "It's truly just the fine tuning and details."

The new venture will be kicked off with a week-long celebration that will include street parties and a stab at a new record for the world's largest margarita, which will include 8,500 gallons of ingredients.

The festivities will be bookended by concerts by Buffett at the MGM Grand Oct. 15 and 22.

Buffet has had a Margaritaville restaurant operating at the Flamingo since 2003 and is expanding the operation to include table games and slot machines.

"We have tens of thousands of individuals who walk by the doors on a daily basis," said Mazer. "We are hoping this is a feature and attraction for those folks who wander in off the street, as well as for the guests of the Flamingo."
