Throat issue sidelines John Mayer

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Singer John Mayer says a throat problem has forced him to cancel some of his upcoming appearances and delay release of his new album.

A statement issued Friday said Mayer has a granuloma next to his vocal cords that will keep him sidelined until further notice.

"I'm bummed to have to bow out of both the iheartradio Music Festival in Las Vegas and an appearance with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles," Mayer said in his statement. "I know there were people depending on me to be there and I'm sorry that I can't be on those stages."

Mayer called the situation a "temporary setback" and said he was confident he would be able to resume touring at a later date.

As far as Mayer's new CD "Born and Raised" goes, the release date has been pushed back to sometime next year. CNN said the album was largely completed except for some vocals that will be filled in at a later date.
