Adam Lambert signs with Katy Perry's agent

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- "American Idol" star Adam Lambert announced he has brought in a new high-powered Los Angeles agency with a solid background in pop music.

Lambert has signed with Direct Management Group, which also handles '80s icons The Go-Go's and reigning pop princess Katy Perry.

Lambert, who was runner-up on season 8 of "Idol," sold nearly 1 million copies of his debut album "For Your Entertainment."

Signing with DMG means Lambert parts ways with 19 Entertainment, the company that has exclusive rights to "Idol" contestants. He follows the lead of Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry who have gone outside the confines of 19 Entertainment.

But 19 Entertainment isn't completely out of the picture, The Hollywood Reporter said. The company is locked in on a cut of the royalties from Lambert's next five record releases as well as merchandise sales.
