LOS ANGELES, July 30 (UPI) -- Claims that singer Soulja Boy had bought himself a $55 million jet as a 21st birthday present were apparently an effort to have some fun with the news media.

The entertainment site TMZ.com says it heard about the jet from Shai Storm, described as part of the singer's management team, from an assistant and from Soulja Boy himself. Soulja Boy reportedly said "Hell yes, I bought it," when asked about the jet.

Greg Miller, a spokesman for Soulja Boy, now says the "elaborate rumors" are "not true."

TMZ said Storm did not return phone calls but did send a text message saying Miller is the only person authorized to speak on the matter.
