NEW YORK, July 15 (UPI) -- A documentary about George Harrison, directed by Martin Scorsese and co-produced with the late British musician's wife, Olivia, will premiere on HBO.

The BBC reported Thursday "Living in the Material World" features home movies and interviews with Harrison's surviving band mates from the Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

The documentary is to be shown on HBO in two parts in October and will be released soon after that on DVD.

"George was making spiritually awake music, we all heard and felt it, and I think that was the reason that he came to occupy a very special place in our lives," the BBC quoted Scorsese as saying.

Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001. He was 58.

Scorsese is the Oscar-winning director of "Shutter Island," "The Departed," "Gangs of New York," "Taxi Driver" and "Mean Streets." He has also shot documentaries about music icons such as Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones.
