SYDNEY, June 24 (UPI) -- American entertainer Jerry Lewis fell ill shortly before he was to perform at a fundraiser in Australia, Zap2it.com said Friday.

Lewis, 85, recently announced he has ended his decades-long run as host of the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Labor Day telethon because of health issues.

He was scheduled to perform in Sydney in the first of eight charity concerts in the country for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation of Australia. However, Zap2it.com said the audience for Friday's show was informed moments before it was to begin that Lewis wasn't feeling well.

"He couldn't even get out of the car; he was pale and looked extremely unwell," concert organizer Richard Errington told News.com.au.

Zap2it.com said it is unclear whether Lewis was hospitalized and, if so, what his condition is.
