NEW ORLEANS, May 30 (UPI) -- New Orleans rapper Tre-8 has died of injuries suffered in a weekend automobile accident, his mother said. He was 37.
Tam McCallon Fischer said her son, whose real name is Walter McCallon, died in a hospital Saturday following the accident in the town of Algiers, La.
The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported Monday the rapper's daughter, two nieces, a nephew and the mother of his children -- all passengers in the car when the accident occurred -- were hospitalized.
His death sparked memorials on his Facebook page and other social media networks.
Tre-8 recorded his first songs as a teenage rapper alongside Tim Smooth as a member of the group Westbank Coalition in 1993.
His latest album, "Black & Purple," was released in March 2011.
The newspaper did not provide details about the accident or give the condition of the other passengers.
