SAN FRANCISCO, May 15 (UPI) -- The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation presented actress Kim Cattrall its Golden Gate Award at its annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremony in San Francisco.

GLAAD made the presentation Saturday at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis. Additional awards were presented in New York March 19 and in Los Angeles April 10.

"The media has a huge role in growing acceptance and understanding of gay and transgender people," said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. "As Americans see images and stories like this year's award recipients, more and more are supporting full equality."

Glee's Naya Rivera hosted the 22nd annual event. Presenters included Mario Lopez, Sara Ramirez and Louis Van Amstel.

GLAAD presented its Corporate Leader Award to AT&T. The award for Outstanding Film, wide release, went to "The Kids Are All Right," and the award for Outstanding Documentary went to "8: The Mormon Proposition."

The award for Outstanding Spanish-Language Music Artist went to Christian Chavez.

GLAAD presented more than two-dozen other awards, ranging from Outstanding Newspaper Article [The Star-Ledger, Newark, N.J.] to Outstanding Newspaper Overall Coverage [Denver Post].
