Ludacris to perform show at Turner Field

ATLANTA, March 24 (UPI) -- Hip-hop star Ludacris is to perform a post-game concert at Atlanta's Turner Field this spring, Major League Baseball said Thursday.

The hourlong show will follow the May 14 game between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies as part of 2011 Civil Rights Game Week.

The Atlanta-based rapper has sold more than 12 million albums domestically and won three Grammy

Awards. He also acts and has appeared in the films "Crash" and "Hustle & Flow."

"I'm a fan of baseball, and I am honored to be a part of MLB's family and tradition of being a pioneering organization for civil rights, social justice and equity," the entertainer said in a statement issued by MLB. "I have studied the strides made in baseball and in sports, and the impact they have had on social issues affecting race and race relations in America. The Civil Rights Game Week is a celebration of those achievements and a reminder of our ongoing responsibility to continue leveling the playing field for all."

Civil Rights Game Week consists of a four-day series of events designed by MLB and the Braves to pay tribute to those who fought on and off the field for equal rights for all Americans, said a news release announcing Ludacris' concert.
