Glitches mark close of a 'bumpy' SXSW

AUSTIN, Texas, March 20 (UPI) -- The South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, ended with thousands of supposedly confirmed guests barred from a Kanye West concert.

A night earlier, four people were hurt when a camera boom fell on the audience at an OMD concert.

SXSW "was largely successful, but it's been a bumpy ride," executive director Roland Swenson told The Austin (Texas) American-Statesman.

The music video company Vevo had to issue an apology Saturday after several thousand fans who had been confirmed as guests at its kanye West event were sent texts informing them they were no longer on the list.

Local hip-hop artist M.C. Overlord said, "It's pretty poor to come to our city and disrespect fans like that."

Vevo said party organizers were "asked by the Austin Police Department" to limit the number of confirmations.

People had begun lining up at midnight Friday for the event, where Jay-Z, Beyonce and Rihanna were rumored to be performing.
