NEW YORK, March 20 (UPI) -- Rocker Bret Michaels, just two months past heart surgery, says he and his band Poison will embark on a 38-stop U.S. tour this summer.

Michaels, 47, who underwent complicated surgery to repair a hole in his heart, also will be doing a solo tour through the spring, the New York Daily News reported Sunday.

The Poison front man had a year of health problems in 2010, including a stroke, an emergency appendectomy, a brain hemorrhage and an ongoing struggle with diabetes.

Nevertheless, he said, he's ready for the road.

"I'm going to be okay. I can't help it. I gotta keep working. I simply can't stay home and sit around wondering what can happen," Michaels said.

"But considering all of the things that have happened to me for almost a year now, I feel pretty damn good."

He admits his doctors have reservations about his plans.

"They think I'm nuts. But I set goals that work for me. I said that in three months I would be back on the road, and that's what I'm doing," Michaels said.
