Kid Rock rocks into his 40s in Motown

DETROIT, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Kid Rock said he was speechless at Saturday night's birthday concert in his native Detroit, but he wasn't too tongue-tied to spend two hours on stage.

"I don't even know what to say," Rock said at one point as he surveyed the cheering throng at Ford Field. "Thank you, thank you, thank you."

A bevy of supporting stars including Cheryl Crow and Martin McBride chipped in with a series of duets with the Kid, who turns 40 on Monday. Detroit's Anita Baker led the crowd in the "Star Spangled Banner," during the encore portion of the show.

The Detroit Fee Press said Sunday the song list stretched back two decades and also included selections from his new "Born Free" album. The newspaper said the concert was a launching point for the upcoming tour in support of the new release.
