NEW YORK, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- "The Book of Mormon," the new Broadway musical from the creators of "South Park" and the co-creator of "Avenue Q," has begun rehearsals in New York.

The production is scheduled to start previews on Feb. 24 and to open March 24 at Manhattan's Eugene O'Neill Theatre, producers said in a news release Monday.

The show features a book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. Parker and Stone are the four-time Emmy Award-winning creators of Comedy Central's animated series, "South Park." "Mormon" marks Parker and Stone's Broadway-musical writing debut.

Tony Award-winner Lopez is the composer and co-creator of the long-running hit stage musical comedy "Avenue Q."

A synopsis of "Mormon" says the musical "follows a pair of mismatched Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that's about as far from Salt Lake City as you can get."
