Lennon's 'Abbey Road' suit goes to auction

NORWALK, Conn., Jan. 1 (UPI) -- A Connecticut auction house says the suit worn by John Lennon in the classic "Abbey Road" album cover went on the block Saturday.

The two-piece off-white ensemble came to the Braswell Galleries from an anonymous collector of Lennon memorabilia who bought it in 2005 for $120,000.

Britain's The Guardian said the suit was custom-made for Lennon in 1969 by Paris designer Ted Lapidus. Lennon wore it in the famed photograph of him and his fellow Beatles walking single-file on the crosswalk outside Abbey Road Studios in London.

Lennon gave the garment to friend Richard Ross. After Ross died, the suit passed through the hands of other collectors before it wound up with its current owner, The Guardian said.
