LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. singer Chris Brown, who assaulted pop star Rihanna last year, said via Twitter he is proud to have completed his domestic-violence course this week.

Brown was required to take the once-a-week class for one year as part of his plea deal for attacking his former girlfriend during a heated argument in a car in February 2009.

He was also sentenced to 180 days of community labor, placed on five years probation and ordered to stay away from Rihanna.

"I have enough self-respect and decency to be proud of accomplishing this DV class," MTV.com said Brown tweeted Tuesday morning. "Boyz run from their mistakes. Men learn from them!!! thx."
