MIAMI, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Recording artist Wyclef Jean performed at the closing of the Haiti Art Expo in Miami to raise money for housing in his native Haiti, organizers said.

"I am excited about performing and speaking at Haiti Art Expo 2010. The collection of artwork from my country that (curator) Michelle Frisch has put together is phenomenal. This helps keep Haiti in the spotlight during one of the most important art festivals in the world. The spirit of Haitian culture is so alive here," Jean said in a statement before performing during the weekend. "Miami is like another home for me, in no small part because of the number of my countrymen who call this city home. And while I am pleased to be here, my heart is clearly back in Haiti."

All art-sale proceeds are expected to benefit refugees and artists who have lost their homes in the earthquake that devastated Haiti Jan. 12, representatives for the expo said in a news release.
