COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- An Ohio government clerk fired for improperly checking singer Crystal Bowersox's vehicle-registration information is to be reinstated, an official says.

The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch reported Thursday Bureau of Motor Vehicles employee Jay Wright was accused of accessing the "American Idol" runner-up's personal information.

Wright was subsequently fired from his job and pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of unauthorized use of property. He was given a suspended 30-day jail sentence.

However, the 17-year state employee is expected to return to work Dec. 6 after his union filed a grievance with state officials, who ultimately agreed to reinstate him, the newspaper said.

A BMV spokeswoman told the Dispatch it is unclear what Wright's job responsibilities will be when he returns.
