LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Sunday's Video Music Awards show in Los Angeles attracted an average 11.4 million viewers, making it one of the most-watched telecasts in MTV's history.

Lady Gaga was the night's big winner, taking home eight VMAs.

"Every year, MTV celebrates the music and creative genius of artists we have the privilege of working with all year long," Van Toffler, president of the MTV Networks Music & Logo Group, said in a statement issued to EW.com Monday. "Last night's luminescent VMA setting provided the perfect backdrop to do just that and we're thrilled the audience resoundingly agreed."
