13 musicians N.C. Hall of Fame inductees

KANNAPOLIS, N.C., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Actor-gospel singer Andy Griffith and bluegrass great Doc Watson are among the newest inductees in the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, the organization said.

Thirteen performers will be inducted into the hall Oct. 7 in a ceremony at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, The Charlotte Observer reported Wednesday.

Inductees also include recording artist Maurice Williams, country artists Donna Fargo and Arthur Smith, bluegrass musician Curly Seckler, jazz pianist and composer Billy Taylor, country singer George Hamilton IV, and country composer, guitarist and soloist Don Schlitz.

Recording artist and composer Don Gibson, Big Band leader Les Brown and recording artist Oliver, born William Oliver Swofford, will be inducted posthumously, Hall of Fame Chairman Bill Kopald said.
