GREENSBORO, Ga., July 11 (UPI) -- Grammy-winning "American Idol" star Carrie Underwood married Canadian NHL player Michael Fisher before 250 guests in Greensboro, Ga.

"We could not feel more blessed to have found each other and to have shared this day with our friends and family that mean so much to us!" the newlyweds told People magazine after their ceremony Saturday at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge on Reynolds Plantation.

Underwood and Fisher, a center for the Ottawa Senators, were engaged on Dec. 20, 2009, after a year of courtship.

The 27-year-old country singer walked down the aisle in a Monique Lhuillier chantilly lace gown, wowing guests including country music power couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, People said.

Security was so tight for the event that the access road to the hotel was closed to traffic, forcing paparazzi to launch boats into Lake Oconee to try to gain a view of the hotel grounds.
