LONDON, July 7 (UPI) -- Cheryl Cole's publicist has confirmed the British pop star and television personality is hospitalized in London and being treated for malaria.
Cole, 27, is a member of the music group Girls Aloud, as well as a judge on the competition series "The X Factor." She also recently toured as a solo act supporting the Black Eyed Peas.
The BBC said she recently returned from a vacation in Tanzania with her friend, dancer Derek Hough, and Monday canceled all of her work engagements this week after falling ill.
Although Cole took anti-malaria tablets while visiting the region in Africa, her spokesman told the British broadcaster she still contracted the disease, which is transmitted by mosquito bites.
No other details regarding Cole's condition were immediately reported.
