LOS ANGELES, June 23 (UPI) -- Musician Gregg Allman underwent a successful liver transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., Wednesday, his Web site said.

The 62-year-old singer, keyboardist, songwriter and guitarist had been on a waiting list for the transplant. The surgery took place Wednesday morning after Allman was notified an appropriate liver had been donated. The procedure is part of his continued recovery from the liver disease Hepatitis C.

"I feel pretty good, considering everything that's happened," Allman, who co-founded the Allman Brothers Band in 1969, said in a statement. "Everybody involved here, my doctors and nurses in the hospital and all the Allman Brothers fans, they've just all been great. ... All I can really say is 'thanks.'"

The band's tour plans have been put on hold while Allman recuperates, the Web site said.
