Ricky Martin to star in 'Evita' revival

NEW YORK, June 10 (UPI) -- Recording artist Ricky Martin is to co-star in the planned 2012 revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's stage musical "Evita," sources told Playbill.com.

The pop singer is to play South American revolutionary Che, a role created on Broadway by Mandy Patinkin and played by Antonio Banderas in the 1996 film version starring Madonna.

Argentine actress Elena Roger, who played the title role in director Michael Grandage's staging of "Evita," which opened at London's Adelphi Theatre in June 2006, is expected to headline the show when it opens in New York in spring 2012, Playbill.com said.
