NEW YORK, June 4 (UPI) -- The achievements of Jermaine Dupri, Master P and Timbaland were celebrated in New York at the 2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors: The Dirty South ceremony.
The event Thursday commemorated the music, the influence and artists from The South, VH1 said, adding it is the first time the show has honored a particular geographic region for its hip-hop celebration.
Also recognized during the show were The 2 Live Crew, J Prince of Rap-A-Lot Records, Luther "Luke" Campbell and Organized Noize.
The ceremony, taped at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom, is to air on VH1 Monday.
Host Craig Robinson opened the ceremony with a monologue paying tribute to all that is great in the "Dirty South," then offered his rendition of Mike Jones's "Back Then," Lil' Wayne's "Lollipop" and Juvenile's "Back That Thang Up" with his band Craig Robinson and Nasty Delicious.
