URBANDALE, Iowa, May 27 (UPI) -- Pills and a hypodermic needle were found near Slipknot bass guitarist Paul Grey when he was found dead in an Urbandale, Iowa, hotel, a 911 tape indicates.
A hotel employee told the 911 operator Grey's hands and legs were purple and he was slumped in a corner with bottles of pills scattered about, The Des Moines Register reported Thursday.
"We believe it's a drug overdose," the caller said, later adding, "There's a hypodermic needle next to the bed here."
An autopsy performed Tuesday did not yield a cause of death, the newspaper said. The Polk County Medical Examiner said he wouldn't release autopsy information until toxicology tests are released in four to six weeks.
Grey died Monday at age 38. Police said foul play was not suspected.
Grey was one of three original members of Slipknot, formed in 1995 in Des Moines.
