Police detain rap icon Suge Knight

LOS ANGELES, May 20 (UPI) -- Famed rap music producer Marion "Suge" Knight was arrested Thursday for allegedly brandishing a weapon, authorities said.

The 45-year-old co-founder of Death Row Records was pulled over as he was driving shortly after midnight and was detained at the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Station, KTTV, Los Angeles, reported.

The Los Angeles Times said he was later transported downtown, then released on bail.

Although few details were provided to the media, the newspaper said Knight was held for allegedly brandishing a weapon at a man Wednesday night in South Los Angeles.

The Times added the alleged victim accused Knight of robbery.

Knight has numerous previous arrests for weapons, assault and drug charges, and has done stints in jail from time to time as a result of them.
