Genesis, Stooges inducted into Rock Hall

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- Genesis, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, and ABBA were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony in New York Monday night.

The star-studded event took place at Manhattan's famed Warldorf Astoria hotel.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong introduced Pop and his bandmates, while Trey Anastasio inducted Genesis members Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Michael Rutherford, E! News said.

Genesis' original lead singer Peter Gabriel reportedly had to miss the gala because he is preparing to tour.

The Bee Gees's Barry and Robin Gibb introduced ABBA members Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Benny Andersson. The Swedish pop band's co-founders Bjorn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Faltskog were unable to attend, E! News noted.

Also recognized at Monday night's event were megaproducer David Geffen, reggae artist Jimmy Cliff and British pop group the Hollies.
