ANKARA, Turkey, March 12 (UPI) -- Members of a Turkish nationalist party are upset their country's entry in this year's Eurovision song contest is sung in English.

Members of the Nationalist Movement Party are unhappy the state broadcaster chose "We Could Be the Same" by the group maNga as the national entry for the contest, which airs throughout Europe from Oslo during the last week of May, the Radikal newspaper reported Friday.

Party deputy Rıdvan Yalcın told the newspaper choosing an English song was disrespectful to Turkey's language and culture.

"So we receive a lot of points, so we come in first. I do not want a first place like that," Yalcın said. "Let us enter with our own language."

The annual Eurovision song contest began in 1955 with entries from members of the European Broadcasting Union.
