NEW YORK, March 8 (UPI) -- Bebe Neuwirth and Nathan Lane are set to begin preview performances of the new Broadway musical "The Addams Family," show representatives said.

The first performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday at Manhattan's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The musical is slated to officially open April 8.

Based on the "bizarre and beloved family" of characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams, the musical has a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, the show's representatives said in a news release.

It also has music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, direction and design by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, and choreography by Sergio Trujillo.

"'The Addams Family' features an original story. It's every parent's nightmare. Your little girl has suddenly become a young woman, and what's worse, has fallen deliriously in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. Yes, Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has a 'normal' boyfriend, and for parents Gomez and Morticia, it's a shocking development that turns the Addams house upside down when they are forced to host a dinner for the young man and his parents," said a synopsis of the new musical.
