LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Promoters of a staging of "The Color Purple" say former "American Idol" star Fantasia Barrino missed multiple performances of the show in Los Angeles.
Backers of the Pantages Theatre production said an inflammation of her vocal cords forced Barrino to miss the weekend performances, but the singer-actress will resume her performance schedule Tuesday, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
Barrino's understudy served as her replacement for the performances Friday and Saturday.
The Times said individuals with tickets to the weekend performances were offered ticket exchanges as a result of the cast alteration.
Barrino, 25, won the third season of "American Idol." The "Color Purple" production featuring the popular singer-actress will run until Feb. 28 at the Pantages Theatre.
