Singer Hallyday in coma with infection

PARIS, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- French rock singer Johnny Hallyday is in a drug-induced coma with an infection apparently brought about by a surgery, his producer says.

Producer Jean-Claude Camus said he is contemplating legal action over the November operation at a Paris hospital that U.S. surgeons blame for the infection endangering the rock singer, Radio France Internationale reported Friday.

Camus said surgeons at Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Hospital where Hallyday is currently a patient, "told us his operation in Paris was complete butchery."

Hallyday, 66, was hospitalized Monday after falling ill with an infection and on Friday was placed in a drug-induced coma by doctors in order to improve his recovery.

Hallyday had colon cancer surgery this year and in November had a procedure for a herniated disc in his back.

Stephane Lievain of the Monceau International Clinic in Paris, where the back surgery took place, told RFI the procedure went as planned.
