LONDON, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Pop star Rihanna has announced plans to perform eight concerts in the United Kingdom this spring, organizers said.

The series is to start in Birmingham May 7 and wrap up in Glasgow May 19, the BBC reported.

In between, the recording artist is slated to play dates in Liverpool, London, Sheffield, Nottingham, Manchester and Newcastle, the British broadcaster said.

Rihanna was in the news much of this year due to a physical altercation she and her then-boyfriend, singer Chris Brown, had last February.

Brown pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to counseling, community service and fines. He also has been court-ordered to stay away from Rihanna as a result of the incident.
