POTSDAM, Germany, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Kate Winslet and Christoph Walz were honored with acting awards at the 61st edition of Germany's Bambi awards in Potsdam.

The stars were named best international actress and actor for their respective roles in the World War II-themed films "The Reader" and "Inglourious Basterds," Deutsche Welle reported on its Web site Friday.

"Ever since we made 'The Reader' I'm always trying to find ways to come back to Germany -- it was special," Winslet said upon receiving her award.

Also honored at this year's ceremony were fashion designer Wolfgang Joop, Colombian recording artist Shakira and Uli Hoeness, the general manager of the German soccer team Bayern Munich.

Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl was presented with the Millennium Bambi for his work in uniting East and West Germany.

"We have peace, and one cannot expect anything more. I am particularly grateful for this, and thank all those who helped in achieving it," Deutsche Welle quoted Kohl as saying in a video message.
