LONDON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Irish rockers U2 have been booked to headline England's 2010 Glastonbury music festival, organizers announced.

The BBC said the group's June 25 gig will mark U2's first appearance at a festival in more than 25 years.

The Glastonbury concert is to take place while the band is on hiatus from its North American tour, the British broadcaster said.

"The 26-year-old rumor has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world," festival organizer Michael Eavis said in a statement. "Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline."

The BBC said no other artists in the lineup have been announced yet.
