NEW YORK, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- New York natives Jay-Z and Alicia Keys will perform on the field at Yankee Stadium before Game 1 of the 2009 World Series, Major League Baseball said Monday.

Jay-Z and Keys will sing their hit, "Empire State of Mind," Wednesday before the Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies open the best-of-seven series, the announcement said. Keys is set to sing the national anthem as well.

Both performances are to air on Fox, which begins its World Series coverage at 7:30 p.m. EDT.

"As a die-hard Yankee fan, I'm honored to perform a song that celebrates the greatness of New York in one of our city's most important landmarks, Yankee Stadium," Jay-Z said in a statement.
