NRBQ rocker Ferguson dead at age 60

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Rock guitarist Steve Ferguson, who helped found the band NRBQ, has died of cancer in Louisville, Ky., the band announced on its Web site. He was 60.

Ferguson, a founding member of the New Rhythm and Blues Quartet in Louisville in 1967, died Oct. 7.

Ferguson and NRBQ singer Terry Adams formed a second version of the group when the original lineup disbanded. Although NRBQ never scored a Top 40 hit, its fan base included rock icons Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney, The New York Times said Sunday.

After leaving the band and its nightclub or theater shows behind, Ferguson played and recorded with multiple other bands in Louisville. Ferguson and Adams briefly reunited in 2006 to record the album "Louisville Sluggers," the Times said.

Ferguson is survived by his wife, Sheri; his son, Simon; two stepchildren, Ian and Haley Dewitt; three brothers, Rick, Phillip and Barry; and three sisters, Janice, Susie and Linda.
