Global show hosted from space station

LONDON, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- French-Canadian circus entrepreneur Guy Laliberte said the Earth looks "fragile" while hosting a two-hour global show from the International Space Station.

The founder of Cirque du Soleil worked with artists and speakers from 14 countries as part of Friday's show with the unified goal of drawing attention to water shortages throughout the world, the BBC reported Saturday.

"I see stars, I see darkness and emptiness. But planet Earth looks so great, and also so fragile," Laliberte said when asked about his perspective of the planet from the space station.

"We should not forget that we have a great privilege to live on planet Earth."

Among those taking part in Friday's show was U2 and the band's lead singer Bono, who affectionately dubbed Laliberte "the first clown in space."

U2 helped in the water shortage effort by performing in Tampa, Fla., while singer Joss Stone performed in London and composer A.R. Rahman highlighted a performance in Mumbai.

The BBC said Laliberte, who reportedly paid $35 million to be taken to the space station for a 10-day visit, broadcast the show on the Web site for his One Drop water charity.
