LONDON, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. pop star Whitney Houston is to appear on "The X Factor," giving her first performance on British television in 12 years.

Houston, who has sold 134 million albums, is making a comeback after years spent battling drug addiction.

"I Look to You," her first studio album since 2002, was No. 1 on the U.S. album chart when it went on sale last month. It is to be released in the United Kingdom Oct. 19.

The BBC said the singer is scheduled to be a guest on "The X Factor," a popular British talent show, Oct. 18.

"It should be a fun night. I am a fan of Simon Cowell's and look forward to meeting him," the BBC quoted Houston as saying.
