Paramount Pictures announced "Terminator" will return to theaters June 26, 2015 in the first installment of a brand new trilogy for the franchise.
The project will partner Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures and David Ellison's Skydance Productions with Paramount.
Friday's news was the culmination of several years of negotiations over rights, delayed by franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger's revelations of a child born out of wedlock.
Paramount would not confirm if Schwarzenegger would again star as the titular robot, or if director Justin Lin (Fast and Furious 6), who had signed onto the film two years ago, was still attached.
Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) will pen the script.
