April 15 (UPI) -- Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy says the late Carrie Fisher will not appear in Star Wars Episode IX, despite a claim by Fisher's brother that she will.

"We finished everything in [Star Wars Episode] VIII [The Last Jedi] and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie," Kennedy told ABC News.

"We are so happy we were able to complete shooting [The Last Jedi]," Kennedy explained, noting Todd Fisher was probably "confused" when he was speaking about his sister's posthumous inclusion in the franchise past Episode VIII.

"Unfortunately ... we were well underway in Episode IX in our thoughts, [but] we had not written the script yet. But we've regrouped, we started over again in January. Sadly, Carrie will not be in [Episode] IX."

The actress died in December at the age of 60, days after suffering cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles. She has already appeared as Princess/General Leia in five movies.

The Last Jedi is due in theaters this December.
