March 22 (UPI) -- Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch bring Captain Underpants to life in the first trailer for DreamWorks' upcoming adaption of the popular children's book.

The clip, released Wednesday, features troublemaking best friends George Beard (Hart) and Harold Hutchins (Middleditch) as they hypnotize their principal Benjamin "Benny" Krupp (Ed Helms) into thinking he is a superhero.

Donning nothing but a red cape and a giant pair of underwear, the newly dubbed Captain Underpants believes he posses superpowers as he attempts to fight crime throughout their city.

Based on the book series by Dav Pilkey, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is directed by David Soren and also stars Jordan Peele, Kristen Schaal and Nick Kroll.

"[Helms] has managed to tap into the sheer stupidity of Captain Underpants," Soren previously said to Entertainment Weekly. "He's a delusional superhero who thinks he's got all kinds of powers and has literally zero ability beyond just that of a middle-aged man."

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is set to arrive in theaters June 2.
