Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Natalie Portman, who is pregnant with her second child, says she will not attend Sunday's Oscars ceremony as planned.

Portman is a Best Actress nominee for her work in Jackie. The drama follows first lady Jackie Kennedy in the days after her husband -- President John F. Kennedy -- is assassinated.

"Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards. I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends," she said in Saturday's statement issued by her spokeswoman Keleigh Thomas Morgan to USA Today.

The Hollywood Reporter noted Portman and her husband, French choreographer Benjamin Millepied, expect to welcome their new addition in the spring. The couple already are parents to a 5-year-old son, Aleph.

The Spirit Awards took place Saturday night.
