Sesame Street cast make Oscar picks

By Sheri Elfman

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Cookie Monster, Elmo and Grover told HLN's Michaela Pereira their 2017 Academy Award favorites Thursday.

Elmo kept it cute-- he is a big fan of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's musical "La la la la, la la La La Land." Cookie Monster chose Manchester by the "The Letter" Sea because, as Pereira joked, "C is for Cookie." Grover cracked that his favorite was "Not something animals," but said he wasn't referring to Nocturnal Animals, because this film was funny and was titled "Knock Knock Joke Animals."

The three also discussed who they would bring as their Oscar dates -- Grover would bring his mom, Cookie Monster would bring "his grandmama" and Elmo would take along Oscar the Grouch.

Sesame Street, which airs on HBO and is in its 47th season, has always been a star-powered show. It recently featured Hamilton icon Daveed Diggs performing "Rubber Duckie" and Grammy Award-winner Pharrell Williams singing "B is for Book."

Grammy Award-winner John Legend filmed a spot in December for his second appearance on the show.
